The Social Network is not what many may think at first sight, or even after watching the trailer. It is not just a boring visual aid on how Facebook grew from a bunch of college students users into now about a billion users world-wide.
This movie is built to be much more than your average "true story" film. David Fincher, the director of the film, is very creative with the film and keeps it extremely entertaining from start to finish. Sure it gives you the facts of how Mark Zuckerberg made billions by creating the world renowned social network of Facebook, but it also captures many interesting fact of the abundant narcissists who post lies in hopes of gaining friends.
I absolutely loved the film. It's not just about the website, in fact it hardly seems to be, nor does it seem to be about social networking. It's about the people behind the website. That is indeed what seems to make The Social Network so compelling, it isn't about the website but rather the lives of the people who made it. Another thing that elevates The Social Network is that it's subject matter is fully relevant to today's world and to how our world has progressed over the last decade.
I personally enjoy David Fincher as a director above many others but this film truly takes the cake. If Fincher took a single wrong step in the film, I most definitely failed to catch it. I won't provide any spoilers but the first act is what really hit me. It immediately compels you to keep watching with no distractions. The film is full of what any viewer seeks, comedy, suspense, and a whole lot of drama.
